Traffic Isn’t The Only Thing That Gets Congested….

I would like to start out this post by saying that the following information is not intended to be in leu of medical advice and or treatment. Rather, this is merely my personal experience and testimony of my use of essential oils.

I dabbled in essential oils in the 70s but it wasn’t until my girls came along that I really started to reap the benefits of using. My eldest had colic and bronchial issues while my youngest had asthma and ADHD.

If you ever want to get hurled down the path of pharmaceuticals just attach a label to yourself or a family member and you’re off. And this one begets that one and that one begets this one. And on and on and on ad nauseam. It’s a slippery slope. That said, there is definitely a time and a place for medications and I am in no way suggesting otherwise.

However, I turned to oils to aid with scrapes and bruises. Different oils helped with sleep. More oils for calming. The more I delved into the uses of essential oils, the more they became a permanent part of my ‘reliable organics’ first aid kit. Fast forward 30 years or so, and I enjoy using and recommending Young Living products.

Most recently, I have developed a sinus infection. The telltale sign for me is the congestion. For an ‘antibacterial combo,’ I make up gel caps of 2 drops Frankincense, 6 drops Oregano and 12 drops of Thieves oils. I take one of these 3 times per day.

There is also nasal irrigation. This is not a passing fad and is certainly nothing new. This link to HealthLinkBC will go into this process in more detail.

I came across a nasal irrigation regimen in the Essential Oil Desktop Reference which adds essential oils to the nasal irrigation process. Rosemary and Tea Tree oils can be used in a saline solution for effective nasal irrigation that clears and decongest sinuses. As recommended by Daniel Penoel, MD, the saline solution is prepared as follows:

Nasal Irrigation Regimen

Equipment

  • small sealed container (I prefer to use glass with essential oils)
  • neti pot

Ingredients

  • 10 drops Rosemary essential oil
  • 6 drops Tea Tree essential oil
  • 8 tbsp. salt utlra-fine

Instructions

  • The essential oils are mixed thoroughly in the fine salt and stored in a sealed glass container.
  • For each nasal irrigation session, 1 teaspoon of this salt mixture is dissolved into 1 1/2 cups filtered or distilled water.
  • This solution is then placed into the neti pot to irrigate the nasal cavities, which is done while bending over a sink.

Notes

This application has brought surprisingly positive results in treating latent sinusitis and other nasal congestion problems.
