THE NEW URBAN HOMESTEADERS

THE NEW URBAN HOMESTEADERS

Homesteading is a lifestyle of self-sufficiency. It is characterized by subsistence agriculture, home preservation of food, and may also involve the small-scale production of textiles, clothing, and craftwork for household use or sale. Wikipedia

I want to start out by saying that if you have started reading this blog thinking that you have found an expert on urban homesteading, I want you to stop reading right now and find another source of information. This is a journal of sorts. An accounting of what we have done. What has worked and maybe more importantly what has not worked and what we learned along the way.

About a year ago we sold our home in the Lower Mainland and moved to the Southern Interior of BC to start a new adventure. The goal was two-fold: to become more self-sufficient and to live a simpler life. That was actually five months before the Covid-19 madness swept over the world. That was before we realized just how dependant we had become on undependable systems. But enough about that. Armed with a lovely little property an abundance of hopes, ideas and dreams we embarked on our journey as New Urban Homesteaders. Yikes!
