Beeswax Wraps…

Pretty and Practical 😉

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle…There can’t be many people out there that aren’t familiar with this phrase; this symbol and most of these bins. And I think that most would say that they do a pretty fair job of recycling. However, when I think back to when this campaign hit the ground in the mid 1980s; the words were listed in order of importance. It was not by chance that Reduce and Reuse came before Recycle. I am not going to delve into the current recycling crisis in Canada; but what I will say is bear in mind that reducing waste and reusing what we can will not only help the planet but will also save you money. Think back. Grandma saved the buttons off old clothes in a cookie tin or jar. Emptied cans from tinned goods were cleaned and used for chicken feed/scratch etc. If you drink coffee like we do; we find the large coffee cans with the plastic lids useful for all sorts of things. Places like Whole Foods and Bulk Barn encourage you to bring in your own sterilized containers to be filled. I actually bought some quart jars at the dollar store because they have metal lids with a rubber lining. Perfect.

Today I want to share with you a fun little DIY product to replace some of the plastic wrap .

Beeswax Cotton Wraps

Materials: Cotton scraps; pinking sheers; parchment paper; iron; beeswax and jojoba oil

Find some pretty little cotton material scraps. Edge them with the pinking sheers to prevent fraying. Lay a tea towel down on the ironing board. Layer a piece of parchment paper, a piece of cotton; shred some beeswax onto cotton; sprinkle with jojoba oil. Cover with another piece of parchment paper and iron. Peel off the parchment paper and it is ready for use. These wraps are easily cleaned with soap and cool water.
